We had a very interesting and useful engagement with the Suzhou Teacher Development Centre housed in an elegantly designed series of buildings with some of the best food to be found in Suzhou. And some of the best eaters.
We looked at micro-details in classroom management (funny how we always assume there are students in the classroom) and replicating for local course books the kind of analysis we undertook for Starters, Movers, Flyers, KET and PET with Cambridge English and British Council. This was an opportunity to look at matching the classroom interaction tasks to targeted outcomes, and import some of the work from books we co-wrote for Trinity GESE and IELTS Band 5 and 7. If that sounds difficult, you are a perceptive reader.
The teachers were very dedicated, hard-working and very open to exploring the potential to affect learning outcomes through how they approach tasks in the classroom. A really wonderful time in a beautiful setting and city.
