The capacity to engage the children in a learning experience is something that is no doubt the result of a lot of study and practice, but it is also the result of a genuine empathy with them as people.
The method used was excellent and the affective factors were high, and the children engaged willingly in the fundamental driver of language: a desire to express something that generates a valued response in the person you are talking to.
The teachers observing this could appreciate that something very normal and human – valued communication – was happening. With this and the analysis of the technical excellence that allowed it, the teachers (an intelligent and eclectic collection of talents) were able to feel the difference in the approach and move much closer to the realization of the same in their teaching.
